Visual Diary

Hi, i really wanted to share some things so first of all how are you all :) hope you all doing good. Well, if you all remember, i told you about my assignment that we were supposed to make our visual diaries to show all the research work. Oh my god! i am so excited to share my visual dairy with you all :D. Basically, Visual Diaries are made to present all the research work so that whatever you have researched about , you don't forget it and pen it down in a way you always remember how well it was researched with all the motifs and everything so that if any body sees it, the person gets everything on point without any confusion.
A Visual Diary is an important and essential part of the. process of making artworks (designing). Most artists. (designers) keep working diaries and they are used as an. important part of the process of generating ideas.
Visual Dairies make things clear and straight and anybody can read it and get it that moment only.

Varied Forms of Gota Patti

Hey People, I know you guys would want to know where all gota patti has been used except lehengas , suits and sarees. Well, Let me answer to this question.

Gota Patti is generally popular for stoles, lehengas, suits, sarees and kurties but it also comes in many other forms like Jutties, Turban edges , Cusion covers, Clutches, jacket, hand fans , puppets and shawls.
People these days love to wear Gota Patti embroidery and most of them want gota work on specific things so thats why gota patti is done on various things.

Designs and Motifs

Heyyyy all, today i have something really interesting about gota patti to share with you all.
There are a lot many types of motifs in gota patti. I found them really interesting and inspiring. 

The design and motifs are inspire by nature like birds (peacock, parrot, sparrow), human figure( Bani thani), animals (elephant, horse). The contemporary design like paisley, geometrical, palanquin, checkerboard are also in fashion. These motifs are structured into buta, butties and cut into various shapes likes flower pot (Gamla), Keri (Mango) and champak flower, and stitched with the base fabrics by chain stitch or by hemming.

1)  Pahad- This design is known as Pahad because it is shaped as the mountain and mountain in hindi is known as Pahad.

2)  Temple - This design is known as Temple because it is shaped as Kalash, a vessel placed on the top of the Temples. As Kalash is an important part of every temple.

3)  Kali - This design is named as Kali because it looks like bud of the flower. And bud of the flower in hindi is known as Kali.

4)  Boota - It is a design which is inspired by flower and are bigger than one and a half inch than any other design.

5)  Booti -The only difference between Boota and Booti is that design of Booti is equal or small than one and a half inch. To make it more attractive they place cuttings of coloured fabric and place it on Gota Patti.

6)  Lehar -This is known as Lehar because it looks like wave and wave in Hindi is known as Lehar.

 

7)  Taj - Famous dome of Taj Mehalis embroided on fabric that is why the design is known as Taj.

Process of making Gota Patti

Hola everyone, I really want to share of skills of how to make gota patti. Today i will tell you all what is the process of Gota Patti. Its very interesting , hope you will enjoy it. :)

I will try to explain it with a table step by step so that it doesn't get boring for you.

Step 1- Fabric Selection
Step 2- Tracing the design on paper
Step 3- Setting fabric on the wooden frame
Step 4- Making a design on base fabric
Step 5- Attachment of Gota Patti by back stitch

The yarn used in Gota weaving is purchased from the market. Yarn is then hanged on stand and drawn upto the machine by manual process.
Weaving machine is run by electricity and woven fabric comes cut in a ribbon form.

The ribbons are cut into desired lengths as per the need of the customers and roll is made and tied.

Later on it is supplied to the people to make laces, for making different designs on it or for the punching process with which the different shapes come out. And then finally supplied to the artisans for the creative work.

CRAFT WORK PROCESS

Motifs which have to be made on fabric are first drawn on tracing paper then perfections done are on its through pin so it could be thread on fabric.

The fabric is switched edge to edge on Adda (frame) to make the work of the artisans easy. 

Marks are put by chalk on the fabric where the motifs have to be traced.

Motifs are traced on it using the tracing paper and the paste (a mixture of chalk powder of and kerosene oil) with cotton or cloth. 

Then the Gota patti is pasted on the fabric traced design.  

After pasting the Gota the edges are embroidered with the Zari thread to give it
aesthetic look and make it more elegant.

Subsequently the entire work is beaten with the help of the instrument known as PEETAN(hammer and block made of wood). 

When the cloth is beaten by the Peetan the fabric is all set for removal from the Adda and the fabric is ready for sale. 

Materials , Tools and Techniques to make Gota Patti

Hello People, You guys must be waiting for me to tell you about what materials are used in gota patti work. Well, waiting time is over so now i am going to tell you about it.

The making of Gota is a lengthy and time consuming process. The base fabric used for gota patti work are light weight chiffon, georgette, satin solid dyed or printed fabrics. The difference styles of printing are used in fabrics like direct (wooden block) , resist dying (tie and dye, batiks) or discharge. It depends on seasonal demand and fashion trend of the local market. Normally fast colours like red, green ,pink , yellow used for dyeing and printing.

The process involved in the making of Gota band is very time taking and tedious. Gota work is mainly done on light weight fabrics like chiffon, Georgette, tussar silks, crepes and satin depending on the demands and the trend of the market. The designs are usually seen to be inspired by nature or are geometric. The entire course of action is divided chiefly into three parts.

MATERIALS

Weaving -  In weaving , there are three types of yarn and these area:-
1) Resham
2) Polyster
3) Zari (badla)

Resham Thread

It is a skinny looking thread which comes out from an insect's egg which is known as Resham. These are colourful pure Resham threads which are used in weaving gota.

Polyster Thread

It is resham mixed with plastic. It has more strength and it is long lasting than resham. Pollster ribbons is most commonly used for appliqué work.

 

Zari (badla)

It is a metallic thread which has replaced pure silver and gold threads. It is cheaper than pure silver and gold thread and it is colourful. This ribbon consists of a metallic weft, while warp is made up of polyester filament yarns.

                                                                       

                                                                     

Gota Ribbon

Gota ribbon is available in different lengths and breadths and colours. Used to separate the designs and as borders.

                                                         

Gota Laces

These come in different designs, colours and sizes. It is mainly used for the borders. To make the laces, ribbons are given the shape as per design required and then stitched.

         

Gota Patti

In earlier days they were cut by the hands but now the punching machines are available in different designs and sizes.

Paste of chalk powder and kerosine oil

The paste chalk powder and kerosine oil is used for tracing the designs and motifs on the fabric.

TOOLS

1) Adda - It is a wooden frame. Craftsman tug the fabric on Adda for doing the work.

2) Peetan ( wooden block and hammer) - Peetan is a type of hammer which is used to beat the war and set it.

3) Fatelah(wooden block to rap thread) - Fatelah is a wooden block on which a sari thread is rolled to work easily.

4) Needle - It is used in embroidery work also and while tucking the fabric on Adda.
