Hi again,
Hope you all doing good. So , lets get to the next level now :) as i explained about our assignment of choosing any craft , folk art or art. I chose Gota Patti Embroidery as my topic. I researched about it as much as i could do. As Gota Patti is originated in Jaipur, Rajasthan. So i thought of visiting Jaipur with my mates who had the topics which belonged to jaipur for more detailed research. Then we visited Nayla Village where Gota Patti is mainly manufactured and designed. We also went to Pink City , Bapu Bazaar and tried to communicate with shopkeepers about how the gota patti is used , where it is mainly used , who all wear gota patti and on what kind of events and more. Clicked pictures of the shops and the persons i communicated with.
We went to ChokiDhani , a famous place of Jaipur and even there also we tried to research about our topics.
Basically, Gota Patti is a type of metallic embroidery along with the technique of appliqué work. Initially the real gold and silver thread is used to manufacture Gota. Traditionally the Gota work was done on the pure fabric like Georgette , Chiffon , Velvet and silk but now it is also done on both semi-pure and pure fabrics.
In Nayla Village we came to know from the manufacturers that this craft is done almost the whole year, but it is less practiced in April , May and June. We saw a Procession and most of the ladies were wearing the gota work sarees as our dates of visiting Jaipur was 13th Jan to 15th Jan so its more practiced in other months because of the wedding seasons. Thats why Gota work clothes are mostly wore in the seasons of wedding and festivals, so it is less practiced in April,May and June because it is neither a wedding season nor a festival season.
Though we had so much fun working together and travelling different places. Had a very good and knowledgable experience.
After my Jaipur research we got back and started doing our visual diaries and tried to do more and more research like as much as we could do.
Researching on the topic you are interested in is the real satisfaction and fun and i literally tried to go deeper and deeper in Gota Patti to know more and more about it. I would like to share some pictures of my visit to Jaipur and my research work.
Hope you guys like it :)
